Metra COPS is a free safety and security mobile app designed for iPhone users. Developed by the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Rail Corporation, this app provides riders with a quick and discreet method for reporting safety and security concerns directly to the police.
With Metra COPS, users can easily send photos, videos, text descriptions, and locations of suspicious people or activities to the police. The app offers two options for contacting the police: the "Report an Issue" button allows users to send text or photos directly to the police, with the camera flash automatically disabled for discretion. Users can select specific locations and report categories to assist the police, and they also have the option to send reports anonymously.
In addition, the app features a "Call 911" button that connects users directly to the police in case of emergencies. The Metra COPS app is designed to operate robustly even under poor signal strength, ensuring that reports can be sent and stored until connectivity is restored. It prioritizes sending text descriptions before photos, enabling the police to receive information as quickly as possible.
One of the additional features of Metra COPS is the BOLO (Be On the Look Out) Alerts. These alerts may display information from the police about specific persons of interest, such as missing individuals. If users encounter someone from a BOLO alert, they are encouraged to immediately call 911 and send a discreet app report.
